AI is the future

(And I’m a time traveler)

Modern design has evolved with AI, allowing me to harness its capabilities at every stage—from interface and asset creation to code handoff.

Below outlines my go-to AI tools and how I use them to keep every step of my design process efficient and effective.

In design

In my design process, I use AI-powered tools to explore ideas and stay aligned with current design trends. When designing screens that are both innovative and intuitive, they help me to lean on what users are already familiar with to keep interfaces navigable.

My 5-star tool selection includes Figma plugins like UXPilot, which help me generate wireframes and color palettes based on current trends, as well as third-party AI tools like Magic Patterns, which lets me create high-fidelity designs that export directly into editable Figma frames.

Through leveraging tools like this in early-stage design, I ensure that I always have a strong starting point and ample inspiration to pick from.

In copywriting

When I’m generating copy within Figma, CubeGPT is my go-to tool to speed up my workflow and keep designs moving. It’s star feature? A list of quick-edit buttons that predict primary prompt interactions. This capabilitiy allows me to quickly create both consumer-facing copy as well as placeholder text optimized to make designs look good in presentations.

My other go-to writing tool is ChatGPT. Once trained to my organization’s voice and style, it consistently provides flexible, on-brand copy inspiration, whether I’m drafting landing pages, email campaigns, or stakeholder pitch decks.

In asset creation

When creating graphics or exploring color palettes, I often turn to generative image AI Figma plugins like DALL-E Prompt to scope my vision. Using AI-generated images lets me quickly see what works and what doesn’t, saving time I would otherwise spend on trial-and-error drafts.

Magic Patterns and the third-party DALL-E AI are also useful tools in this arena when I need to generate visual content outside of Figma for anything from pitch decks to brand assets.

In code

When creating specs for developer handoff, I often use AI tools like Builder.io to see how Figma designs might translate to code.

When generating specs for engineering handoff, I often use Framer to see quickly drawn-up AI design replicas of features I’m exploring in a near-code context. This helps me format specifications that integrate smoothly with our existing CMS while drawing inspiration from how the design could function in code.
